Arrived in Townsville

Townsville, QLD, Australia

We’re chilling out in Townsville for a couple of nights before taking the ferry over to Magnetic Island for some kayaking and diving.

After one more sleep in Arlie Beach, we rented a car and drove 3 or 4 hours north to the next city: Townsville. Townsville seemed quite charming, with a beautiful ocean front (the strand), several bars, restaurants, and pubs. It also had some towering hills on one side that were begging to be climbed. But it was raining most of the time, so we couldn’t really enjoy it as much as we would have liked. We also found the city to be a little sleepy. The popular Sunday market was more like a small town bake sale. But the Saturday night Rugby match (Aus vs. South Africa) was an exciting thing to watch on the big screen at the local brew pub (which also happened to make some pretty good beers).

The main reason we came to Townsville was because we had heard great things about Magnetic Island, which is a short ferry ride away.
