Yangshuo, China
Yangshuo was a small village near Guilin, which was really our first stay in mainland China. The Scenery was amazing, with rocky outcrops jutting up everywhere, and rice pattys, fish farms and other crops growing in the fields between. It was a fairly touristy town, very well setup (and affordable) for us to learn Chinese caligraphy, Tai Chi, and cooking, as well as rent mountain bikes and tour the country side. This was where we had our first encounter with a chinese wet market (complete with live chickens, rabbits, eals, frogs, fish, etc., raw bull “packages” and sun dried dog). This is also where we were first bambarded with poor locals trying to sell us post cards, umbrellas, and various nicknacks wherever we went. It just takes some getting used to, then you learn to ignore it.
